August 31, 2017 - There is a big vote coming!

From L to R: San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo; Mayor of Sacramento Darrell Steinberg; Senator Toni Atkins; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti; San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee; San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaff; and me

We’re SO close to passing a landmark housing deal, but there’s still a chance we won’t have the votes we need in the Assembly to make the deal a reality.

My colleagues and I worked with Governor Brown to assemble a package of bills which will create new funding for affordable and veteran housing and make sure cities around the state are creating their fair share of new housing.

The package will include a $4 billion bond which will be used to build new housing and to make existing housing more affordable.

Yesterday, the Mayors of the largest cities in California came together - in bipartisan support for our package - joining hundreds of organizations and millions of Californians who are fighting for affordable housing.

To pass this package, we have to make sure that two-thirds of our state legislature vote YES.

The vote will happen in the coming days, stay tuned for more updates, coming very soon.
