Jan 28, 2017 - Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year! Candace and I want to wish you a happy, healthy, and hopeful New Year.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2017 is the Year of the Rooster. Symbolically, the Rooster has stood for honesty, physical and moral fortitude, which is fitting in a year when we will need to confront “alternative facts” and stay strong when our rights and those of our friends and neighbors are under attack.

The Rooster also symbolizes courage, vigilance, and watchfulness, qualities we should aim to emulate in 2017: couragein the face of fear and aggression; vigilance in holding true to our values as a city and state; watchfulness for the most vulnerable in our communities.

Next Friday, February 3rd, from 2-4 PM, I am hosting a Lunar New Year Celebration in the State Building at 455 Golden Gate Avenue, along with Assemblymember Phil Ting, State Senator Scott Wiener, and Board of Equalization Chair Fiona Ma.

We hope you can join us - please RSVP here.

Happy Year of the Rooster!
