March 15, 2018 -- FACT Act at the Supreme Court

In 2015, I authored the Reproductive FACT Act. The bill had a simple goal -- to ensure that all pregnant women have access to timely, medically-accurate information. It requires all health centers -- including fake health clinics that intentionally deceive pregnant women -- to provide a short notice disclosing all options available to pregnant women in California.

As soon as our Legislature passed the FACT Act, right-wing groups began an aggressive, legal campaign to block it through multiple lawsuits. Four federal district courts and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld our law.

And then Trump was elected. And Neil Gorsuch was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear oral argument on the FACT Act.

This is more than just a law I authored. There are real lives at stake.

Let’s send a strong message that California stands with women.

I’m leaving for D.C. Monday night and will be at the Supreme Court to attend the oral argument. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming days.
