Improving Transit

Bike to Work Day

As someone who doesn’t own a car, David regularly bikes, rides Muni and utilizes car-sharing. Improving our public transit system has been one of his top priorities.

  • Tackled Muni by successfully restoring service cuts in an era of fare increases, and crafted a reform package that required performance audits, explored governance challenges and established written work order agreements.
  • Promoted cycling by establishing a San Francisco goal of 20 percent of trips by bicycle by the year 2020, pushed for more bike lanes to ease traffic congestion, and advocated for increased enforcement of traffic rules for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians.
• Expanded car-sharing by passing legislation to increase car-sharing options in residential developments and car-sharing requirements in non-residential buildings, and championed the city’s first on-street, car-sharing sites.
  • Championed innovations in our city’s transit system, including the Central Subway, bus rapid transit, and a redesigned Better Market Street.
